About the university

Through a merger of three research-based universities, Charles Darwin University was founded as a public university in 2003. It has continued the tradition of research and progress and is currently one of the seven Innovative Research Universities of Australia. Through emphasizing social justice, sustainability, creativity and collective effort, CDU is able to bring together students from all backgrounds in order to work towards a better future. The main campus is based just outside of Darwin with the business school located in the business district of Darwin, but other campuses and training centers are found in Palmerston, Alice Springs, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru, Tennant Creek, and Yulara. Students are able to gain admittance to one of three schools: Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment; Law, Education, Business, and Arts; or Vocational Education and Training. Students who choose to study at the main campus in Darwin will find all sorts of amenities such as on-campus housing, student clubs, and activities. The city itself, situated on the coast of the Northern Territory, offers parks, open-air markets, museums, and the nearby Kakadu National Park. Students who live on or near campus will be able to walk to restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, and a local movie theater. However, the main star of the Darwin area is the water, and within minutes of campus are all sorts of beaches. The Nightcliff Foreshore Park provides a quick and relaxing getaway where students can study or socialize with friends, and the Dripstone Cliffs Staircase offers unique topographical features, observation posts from World War 2, and stunning seaside views. Darwin is a beautiful area to live, study, and work towards educational goals.
